I came across this gem of Snoop Dogg covering Sad But True for MTV Icon: MetalIica back in 2003. It's so much worse than I remember.
With the release of Metallica's Hardwired...To Self-Destruct, I thought I would share a moment of my 20 year love for the band. In 1997 a friend of mine shared his copy of Master Of Puppets with me. I had heard of Metallica but never really gave them a shot. At the time I was big in to classic rock like Jimi, Zepplin, The Doors, and Kiss. Hard rock and heavy metal weren't on my radar just yet but I figured I would give them a shot. I popped in the CD and Battery started up which I thought was pretty good. Then Master Of Puppets came on... This was the song that changed everything for me. It was the most badass thing I had heard in my life. The heavy riff, James's vocals, Kirk's solo, the haunting lyrics, all combined to make this amazing song. I was a Metallica junkie from that point on. It set me on my way to becoming the metal head I am today. So in celebration of the new album, I just wanted to share the song that started it all for me.
So just this morning I discovered the metal band Okilly Dokilly. Based out of Arizona, it's five guys who dress up like Ned Flanders and sing Simpsons inspired metal. The band dropped their debut album, Howdilly Doodilly, on November 11th. Check out the first single "White Wine Spritzer" below. If nothing else it's a funny concept.
