Columbus’ Own BEARTOOTH Finds a New High With 'Pure Ecstasy'

Beartooth is back, Columbus! - One of Central Ohio's biggest modern rock success stories has officially unleashed a brand-new chapter.

Beartooth released their sixth studio album, Pure Ecstasy, Friday via Fearless Records — marking the band's first full-length release with their new label home. And if you thought Caleb Shomo and company were about to take their foot off the gas... yeah, you clearly haven't been paying attention.

Pure Ecstasy is Beartooth doing what Beartooth does best: massive hooks, crushing heaviness, brutally honest lyrics and enough emotional chaos to make you want to throw your fists in the air while simultaneously questioning your entire existence.

In other words... welcome back to the beautiful madness.

The 11-track album was written, recorded and largely produced by Shomo himself, with collaborations from Jordan Fish — known for his work with Bring Me The Horizon, Halsey and Good Charlotte — helping push the band's sound into some new territory.

But don't worry, this isn't Beartooth suddenly forgetting where they came from.

This is evolution.

From the anger and pain of Disgusting, through Disease, Below and the emotional breakthrough of 2023's The Surface, Beartooth has always worn its scars right out in the open. Pure Ecstasy continues that journey — except this time, there's something different happening.

There's joy.

Real, hard-earned, fought-for joy.

That doesn't mean everything is sunshine and rainbows. Caleb Shomo has never been one to pretend life is simple, and Pure Ecstasy lives in those extremes. The highs are HIGH, the lows are brutal, and sometimes both seem to be happening at the exact same time.

The band's latest video, for "Beautiful Again," might be the best example of that emotional tug-of-war.

Shomo says the song perfectly captures the mindset he was in while making the album:

"Pure joy and pure despair, nothing in between."

And honestly? That sounds pretty damn Beartooth.

The album includes the previously released tracks "Free," "Eyes Closed," "Bullshit" and the title track, along with new songs including "Beautiful Again," "Stadiums," "Sorry," "Lose You To Find Me," "You," "For Me By Me" and "I Made It."

The result is an album that feels like both a reinvention and a continuation of everything Beartooth has built over the years. The heaviness is still there. The emotion is definitely still there. But Pure Ecstasy finds Caleb Shomo sounding like someone who's spent years fighting his demons — and is finally discovering what it feels like to enjoy the damn sunlight.

And for those of us in Columbus, there's something especially cool about watching it happen.

Beartooth started with Caleb Shomo creating music in an Ohio basement. Now, more than a decade later, the band has become a global force with billions of streams, gold and platinum records, No. 1 hits and fans screaming these songs back at them around the world.

Not bad for a band from Columbus.
