National Women Rock Day: Celebrating the Women Who Made it, Shaped it, and Are Dominating the Stages Today

Women don't belong just on the side stage; we belong front and center.

Janis Joplin, The Runaways, Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks, and Ann Wilson. These women weren't just singers. They were my holy grail, pulling me into rock in a way I never expected... a force that would shape my entire life. I still remember the first time I heard Joan Jett sing "Bad Reputation" or "I Love Rock 'n' Roll." Right there, I knew rock music wasn't just something to listen to — it was a part of me. It consumes you to your bones, in every beat, every chord, every scream.

Then a beautiful, chaos-fueled powerhouse of women like Courtney Love, Shirley Manson, and Dolores O'Riordan, came in like a tornado, defining and entire generation or rock and paving the way for women in rock today. Women like Amy Lee, Maria Brink, Lzzy Hale, Taylor Momsen, Hayley Williams, Poppy, Courtney LaPlante, Emily Armstrong, and countless others aren't just performing, they're taking over. They didn't ask for space in a male-dominated industry. They took it. Rock is heavier, louder, and more female-led than ever.

I often wonder if these women even realize the impact they're making. Some of my best memories are taking my girls to rock shows. My oldest idolizes Maria Brink and is always front and center, soaking in every moment. These women aren't just performing — they're giving girls the confidence to step up, speak out, and be unapologetically themselves. That's Rock 'N' Roll.

Tess leads with a one-of-a-kind personality, fearless, authentic, and impossible to ignore. She embodies rock culture in every way.

And then there's me — Glenda. New on air at The Blitz. Unfiltered. No polish. Just raw passion for rock, metal, and everything in between. Just hoping I can connect everyone with the music they love — not just listening but feeling it in every ounce of them.

Behind the scenes, women like Emily, Monica, and the teams in sales, promotions, the front desk, and everywhere in between keep this station running. Without them, The Blitz wouldn't work. Period.
