Dave Grohl's Documentary Premieres Today

Capture

Dave Grohl's documentary "What Drives Us" premieres today.  He directed it and Foo Fighters produced it., along with the creators of Sound City and Sonic Highways

It's based on the early days of bands going out on the road and the troubles they went through to get to where they are, all because of their love of playing music. There are tons of interviews from musicians like Slash and Duff Mckagan, Lars Ulrich of Metallica, Brian Johnson of AC/DC, Flea of The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and more.

Grohl said "This film is my love letter to every musician that has ever jumped into an old van with their friends and left it all behind for the simple reward of playing music."

You can watch What Drives Us on The Coda Collection on Amazon Prime. (The Coda Collection is a channel on Amazon Prime that you have to pay for but pro tip - sign up for a free 7 day trial to watch and then cancel if you want)

In case you missed the kick ass Metallica performance of “Enter Sandman” after the Super Bowl and the rare use of their music for a new Ford F-150 campaign! Brace your face and watch here! \m/\m/

MetF15020210205_601cc6ad0cfbc
Metallica have yet to be invited to perform at any of the Super Bowl' halftime shows. This year was no different, so we'll just have to settle for their performance of "Enter Sandman" on late night TV after the big game. The track is also being used by Ford to promote their 2021 desert-racing F-150 Raptor.

"When we thought about what song captured the new Raptor in all its dune-bashing, desert-running glory, one stood out: 'Enter Sandman'. It's a song that has almost never been used commercially, but luckily Metallica are Raptor fans."

- Ford's Chief Communications Officer Mark Truby

Ozzy is 1/2 way done with his new album & his Guest Appearance list will blow minds!

OOTopHat-Promo
Ozzy has been working hard on his next album with Producer Andrew Watt. This will be Ozzy's 13th studio album and will be a doozy, because according to a recent update from Mr. Watt, the sessions are underway and they have enlisted Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.

Watt did an interview with Guitar World and talked about protocols on keeping Ozzy safe during the recording sessions, who impressive list of guest musicians and how the album is sounding...

"We're about halfway through. But, you know, it's been hard with COVID and everything to keep him safe. We all test every day before we work and it's just me, Ozzy and my engineer. So it's taken a little longer this time, but it's cool because the last one was made in this, like, swift love affair of passion, like, 'Oh my God, this is incredible!' [laughs] But this time everyone's moving a little slower and we're taking a little more time. And the songs, there's some songs on there that are like eight or nine minutes long that are these really crazy journeys. I'm really excited about it."

"There's a bunch of people involved. I can't say for sure until the end, but I started doing a bunch of basic tracks with Chad and Robert Trujillo, who used to play in Ozzy's band. And Taylor Hawkins also came in and played a bunch on the record as well, which adds a different flair – it kind of harkened back to Ozzy's '80s era, in a great way. And I think it's so cool for a rock fan to be able to listen to half an album with Chad Smith on drums, and then you flip it over and you get to hear Taylor Hawkins.

And you know, the last album was really special for everyone involved. And so there was no point in Ozzy or me doing this again unless we thought we could bring something new to the table. And I feel like we're achieving that."

"Well, we're just halfway through, so it could still change. Some of these songs we have could wind up not even making the album. So I can't really say yet. But in the end it's all Ozzy's decision. When he tells me we've got the album, that's when I'll stop."
